One of the advantages the Apple IIGS has over many other computers is its ability to display in color. Many application programs designed for the Apple IIGS take advantage of its color capabilities. The Finder is one example of such a program. In addition to the border color of the Finder desktop, icons on the desktop can be colored. You may want to use color purely for decoration. But many people find that adding color to their icons can help them organize information more efficiently and find items more quickly. For example, if more than one person uses your Apple IIGS, you might find it useful to have each user pick one color for his or her folders and files. Or if you use your computer for different purposes at different times, you might want to use colored icons to let you see at a glance which folders and files relate to a given purpose.
Monochrome monitor? If you have a monochrome monitor, you can still follow the procedure described in this section. Instead of changing the color of your icons, you'll be changing the shade of gray.
