: I own a computer shop that recycles old hardware. I thought I've seen it all, but the other day someone dropped off an old Apple IIGS, but it's in a IIe case. I've seen quite a few IIGS come through, but never in a IIe case. The sticker on the bottom looks like a factory tag and it reads "Apple IIGS Upgrade".
: Can anyone tell me anything about this? It's kind of neat, with the monitor, dual 5-1/4 drive unit, 3.5" floppy and it fires up -- I may stick it in the front window with the old Kapro lugable.
: Thanks

Darin,
The Apple IIGS upgrade kit was designed for an Enhanced Apple //e with a numeric keypad (ie. The Platinum //e). The kit had a complete ROM 01 IIgs motherboard (w/256K RAM) that totally replaced the //e motherboard. Also included was some system software and a "IIGS Upgrade" nameplate. Unfortunately, the IIGS upgrade kit for the //e was rather expensive and also did not accept some full-length IIgs peripheral cards due to space limitations.
Overall though, this machine would be a nice addition to any Apple // collectors library. They are considered pretty rare although not as rare as a //c LCD :)
Cheers,
John
